Too cool! Today I found pdf which is Pure Data’s take on mxj. It’s supposed to be API compatible with mxj, which is great because that’s what I use for all my Java-based externals. Suddenly I feel like I’m in the open again after having been digging myself further and further into Max/MSP. Don’t get me wrong, Max/MSP is nice but Pure Data is closer to my heart. Well, as far as software goes, anyways.

I’m currently taking a class at University of California, San Diego and am looking for ANY help I can find with pdj. It’s a programming class, but my programming skills are terrible. I’m not even sure how to set it up. Besides the pdf, is there any other walk through or tutorial on how to get this running?
Hi Michael,
although I haven’t used pdj for long, I noticed Pascal has updated it last year, so check out http://www.le-son666.com/software/pdj/. It will get you going with pdj, but it’s not an introduction to JavaScript or Java, so if you’re just starting out I think your time would be better spent learning all that Pure Data has to offer, and getting familiar with all the excellent plugins that are already available and ready to be installed.
Cheers
Nik
